Curbside Prophet
American Idol’s Top 11

[via]

American Idol’s finalists tackled 11 of Billboard’s No. 1 hits Tuesday, a vague theme that allowed for just about anything. Lee DeWyze started strong, honoring the late Alex Chilton with the Box Tops’ The Letter. The judges raved when Crystal Bowersox channeled Janis Joplin for Me and Bobby McGee (the night’s obvious song choice). Save for Simon Cowell, they also praised Siobhan Magnus’ show-closing Superstition. Beyond that, though, they couldn’t find much to get excited about.

Paige Miles and Tim Urban had two of the season’s worst performances with Against All Odds and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, respectively. If fans stepped up their voting to save them, some of the evening’s mediocre performers — Katie Stevens, Andrew Garcia and Didi Benami — could find themselves in the cross hairs Wednesday.

Here are my rankings:

  1. Crystal Bowersox, Me and Bobby McGee
  2. Lee DeWyze, The Letter
  3. Michael Lynche, When a Man Loves a Woman
  4. Siobhan Magnus, Superstition
  5. Casey James, The Power of Love
  6. Aaron Kelly, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing
  7. Didi Benami, You’re No Good
  8. Andrew Garcia, I Heard It Through the Grapevine
  9. Katie Stevens, Big Girls Don’t Cry
  10. Tim Urban, Crazy Little Thing Called Love
  11. Paige Miles, Against All Odds

Now, now, now… I mostly agree with those rankings but check past the READ ME for more details!

Now, I’m biased (who isn’t?) because those in my top choices may not have had the best performance in the judges eyes (and maybe even in America’s eyes) but to me, your average music-listener, I thought they were spot on.

  1. Crystal Bowersox
  2. Siobhan Magnus
  3. Casey James
  4. Didi Benami
  5. Lee DeWyze
  6. Michael Lynche
  7. Tim Urban
  8. Andrew Garcia
  9. Aaron Kelly
  10. Katie Stevens
  11. Paige Miles

Shocked at my choices? I think my top 5 are pretty similar to anyones top 5 with the exception of Didi Benami; whom I haven’t always liked. Her voice is growing on me. It reminds me a bit of something Lily Allen”esque”. As for putting Michael Lynche so low when his performances have been outstanding in comparison to other contestants — Something about him just BOTHERS me. I don’t know what it is. Perhaps his outright cockiness on stage? It completely turns me off from his performances. I’m also not a huge fan his R&B style and his “I-lick-my-lips-all-the-time-after-every-sentence” mannerism. That’s just me and my biased thinking, though. Lee DeWyze is usually a higher ranking but I really think Didi pulled one out this week. Another shocker — Tim Urban ranking so high. He is like this year’s Sanjaya Malakar, he just won’t get voted off. He isn’t a very good singer or performer but there was just something about his performance this week that made me smile… and also realize that 50 year old housewives and little teeny-bopper girls are going to be picking up the phone for him. Hell, if I were either of those two generations and had some Tim Urban peen thrust towards me on my television, I’d pick up the phone too! My bottom 3 have been my bottom 3 for a long time. I’ve hated Paige Miles since the beginning and I’m still bitter that she stayed around longer than Lacey Brown! Aaron Kelly and Katie Stevens, the two youngest Idol contestants suck and just need to be gone ASAP. Katie Stevens will still make it big out of the Idol franchise because Kara and Simon are right — she has POP personality and could become a new generation of Britney Spearses and Christina Aguileras.

Hmm, what do YOU think about my choices?
